Lusaka, Zambia – Zambia’s vice- president Rupiah Banda has sent a message of condolence to Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Philippines, on the death of more than 700 people as a result of the typhoon ‘Fengshen’ that hit the Southern part of that country last month, PANA reports from here.

Banda, in a message sent on behalf of President Levy Mwanawasa, currently hospitalised in Paris, France, said “we learnt with profound grief and sorrow of the tragic death of more than 700 people as a result of the typhoon ‘Fengshen’ that hit the Southern part of the Philippines on 21 June, 2008.

“On behalf of His Excellency the President of Zambia, Dr Levy Mwanawasa, the government and people of Zambia, may I convey our deepest sympathies and condolences on this tragic loss to you and through you, to the bereaved families and the people of the Philippines,” the vice president’s statement said.
