June 9 (Bloomberg) — Zambia Sugar Plc, a unit of South Africa’s Illovo Sugar Ltd., said it plans to boost exports to Europe by 30 percent when trade barriers are lifted.

Sugar exports to European markets may climb to more than 430,000 metric tons a year when a new trade agreement with Europe comes into effect, said Corporate Affairs Manager Lovemore Sievu by phone from Lusaka today.

The so-called Economic Partnership Agreement, which will give Zambia tariff-free access to the European market, may come into effect as soon as the fourth quarter, Commerce Minister Felix Mutati said on national television on June 7.
